World Series Of Poker (WSOP)

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is an annual event held in Las Vegas consisting of a number of poker tournaments. The WSOP culminates with a $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold'em Tournament known as the "Main Event" which takes place over a number of days.

WSOP History

The World Series of Poker started in 1970 at Binion's Horseshoe casino. The first "Main Event" was played in 1971, consisted of six players and was won by Johnny Moss. Over the years participation has increased dramatically, peaking at 8,773 players in the 2006 tournament won by Jamie Gold.

WSOP Schedule

A number of tournaments varying by game played and buy-in are held in the month leading up to the final event. For the first time in 2008 when the field was reduced to the final table of nine players there was a break in play of 4 months, from July to November. Whether this continues in the future is yet to be determined.
