Cake Poker History

Cake Poker is one of the most well-known poker rooms today. Until recently, Cake has been a safe haven for US players wanting to play poker on the net. However, as of September 2012, Cake no longer accepts Americans (although other sites on the network still do).

Having been the flagship site of their own network (the Cake Poker Network), they have built up quite a loyal following over the years. They are still part of the network, although it they have sold it and it was renamed the Revolution Gaming network. However, as part of the new network, Cake Poker still consistently ranks in the top 10 poker rooms in the world, and this status definitely shows in their player base, loyalty program, and their promotions.

Cake Poker Player Traffic 8/10

Cake Poker is one of the fastest growing online poker rooms, and this is spurred on by the fact that they are part of the exploding Revolution Gaming network, where some of their partner sites are able to accept US players. This allows them to take advantage of the lack of options for US poker players and means that even during off peak hours there's a great selection of tables and Sit'n'Gos. Cake Poker even has a small ticker on their website which clearly states how many players are online at that moment, which can be useful if you know you want to play some of the less populated games.

Cake Poker Quality of Players 7/10

Like most sites right now on networks that welcome US players, Cake Poker is so inundated with casual players and even outright bad players that the play is soft and you can find profitable tables at most levels. Between this fishy competition, their long-running history, and wide variety of games, just about everyone can find a table they're comfortable at. Players who have a decent knowledge of poker strategy will easily wipe the floor with most players here, especially at the low limit Texas Hold'em tables.

Cake Poker Software 7/10

Cake Poker is constantly updating and improving their software. Some sites may have old or outdated software with poor graphics and a clunky interface, but Cake Poker certainly isn't one of them. They have clean and easy to navigate software with a focus on making game play simple and hassle free. The purely aesthetic aspects, such as player icons, are included in unobtrusive ways. For example, the play buttons are larger and the tools and statistics options are laid out in a thoughtfully useful manner. They have paid just as much attention to comfort, ease of use, and the ability to customize your experience as they did software security and safety.

Cake Poker Bonuses and Promotions 7.5/10

Cake Poker doesn't just offer a good first deposit bonus like some smaller sites, though at $2,000, their new depositor bonus is nothing to scoff at. They know that to boost traffic and draw in the best poker players there has to be competition, and players who are serious want the biggest bang for their buck. They sponsor new deposit freerolls to help players build their poker bank rolls, weekly guaranteed tournaments, reload specials, player appreciation days and special high-value guaranteed tournaments that change regularly. Besides all these promotions, however, the best poker sites, like Cake Poker, offer a solid loyalty program and rakeback rewards. These include Gold Chips and Gold Cards that can be collected and redeemed for prizes, tournament entries, even merchandise.

Cake Poker Customer Support 7.4/10

Cake Poker's support is quite thorough, with an entire drop down menu of options that may help players without ever needing to contact support. There is a full FAQ section, a known issues section to warn players of possible problems, and, best of all, a Network Status option that can help players diagnose any problems they may have. If none of this answers your question, however, Cake Poker's support staff is available 24/7. The only noticeable downfall to Cake Poker is their lack of options when it comes to how to contact their support staff as the only option is via email. There are a number of different emails offered to help your question be directed to the proper department, and typically they will respond within the hour.
